This work provides a comprehensive systematization of knowledge on offline-capable digital-currency protocols. It analyzes the security, privacy, fraud prevention, resilience, interoperability, and trust properties of existing offline digital payment approaches and identifies open research challenges for future CBDC and digital-currency ecosystems.
